What we collect

We collect account basics such as email, first name, your confirmation that you are 18 or older, and an optional gender used only for partner filtering. We also collect the climbing profile details you provide, including types, grades, belay and gear details, availability, photos, home area, current climbing area, travel area, carpool preferences, parking passes, and the optional My gym entry you type. When you use related features, we collect location coordinates, participant-only meetup details, messages, the shared-detail summary added to a new chat, climbing plans, your private climbing log sessions and route entries, saved climbing areas and routes, feature ideas and votes, an optional credit name, feedback, reports, purchase records, and device information used for notifications and support, including your push token, platform, app version, and last-seen time. The launch app does not connect to Instagram or collect Instagram data.

How location works

Location is how Climb On finds climbing partners near you or in an area you pick. Other climbers only see your general area name and a rounded distance, never your precise coordinates, and distances shown to others are rounded to at least one mile.

What others see

Your profile can show your first name, home area, current climbing area, travel area, rounded distance, climbing types and grades, belay and gear details, availability, photos, climb count, carpool preference, parking passes, and, when you turn it on, your My gym entry. A new chat can show both climbers the details you already share, such as the same gym, overlapping availability, or the same climbing style, using only details each of you has made visible. Gender never appears on your profile; it only decides whether you appear in gender-filtered searches. Exact meetup details appear only to participants in that conversation. Your climbing log is private to your account; shared climb confirmations remain a separate record between the two climbers. A feature idea appears publicly only after we select it for voting, and only with the credit name you chose.

How we use data

We use data to find climbers nearby, including climbers who listed the same gym, run chat, climbing plans, reporting and blocking, notifications, purchases, support, and community-rule enforcement. First-party product events include feature outcomes and sponsored placement impressions or clicks; they never include message text, photo bytes, report notes, email, purchase receipts, or precise coordinates. The website records which print piece, article, or link a download visit came from as an anonymous source label; a download visit is counted separately from an app account. Founding sponsor and gym supporter records hold business details only, never climber profiles or messages, and sponsor reports use aggregate totals. We remove or irreversibly unlink account-level analytics when you delete your account and may retain de-identified totals that cannot be traced back to you. We do not sell your personal data or track you across other apps or sites.

Who we share with

Apple handles Apple sign-in, purchases, push delivery, Calendar access you request, and device authentication; Google handles Google sign-in; Resend delivers account, support, and opted-in climbing emails. Railway hosts the database, application services, and private media storage. Nearby crag and route details come from published climbing-area sources, and each place keeps a link to its source. These providers receive the information needed for the features you use. We do not use a third-party advertising or analytics service, and we do not send your profile or messages to one. Founding sponsors and gym supporters never receive your profile, messages, log, or votes. We may disclose data when required by law or to protect people from imminent harm.

Adults only

Climb On is for adults. You confirm that you are 18 or older when you sign up. We do not knowingly keep accounts for anyone younger; if you think a minor has an account, contact us and we will investigate and remove it when appropriate.

Your controls

You can edit profile information, add, hide, or clear your My gym entry, pause discovery, control notifications, unsubscribe from marketing, manage saved offline content, edit or delete climbing log sessions, remove a vote, ask us to change or remove a public credit, and delete your account in Settings. Account deletion removes the account's local database, drafts, queued messages, saved plans and attachments, profile, photos, My gym entry, connections, chats, climbing log, saved places, votes, and linked analytics events. Limited legal, accounting, fraud-prevention, or community-enforcement records may remain under the purposes stated here. Apple subscriptions continue until you cancel them through Manage subscription or your Apple Account; deleting Climb On does not cancel Apple billing.

Retention and security

Profiles, conversations, climbing plans, climbing logs, saved places, feature ideas, and votes persist in our database. After you download a conversation or accepted plan, Climb On stores that account's messages, plan details, drafts, queued text, and selected attachments on your device so you can read them without a connection. Offline copies show their last update; they cannot include messages or cancellations the phone has not received. Device files use iOS data protection and stay outside shared backups. Deleting an account removes active climbing records and queues stored photos for removal; temporary storage failures are retried. Website support, sponsor, and gym supporter requests are kept for 365 days unless a business relationship continues. Recovery backups are held separately with restricted access. Network requests use HTTPS. Purchase and provider records are also governed by the applicable provider's policies.
